Phnom Penh (FN), April 25 – The Mekong River Commission (MRC) today announced a new effort to address flood and drought issues in the Mekong region, and set new policies to strengthen internal control and operation within its Secretariat, according to the MRC’s press release dated Thursday.
“The announcement came during its two-day bi-annual meeting, which concluded today in Viet Nam’s Vung Tau City, as the MRC’s governing body Joint Committee decided to integrate drought monitoring and management functions into the organization’s current flood forecasting work. The decision will see the MRC’s Regional Flood Management and Mitigation Center (RFMMC) take on a new name – Regional Flood and Drought Management Center (RFDMC),” the press release stated.
