Phnom Penh (FN), March 25 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed regret over Prey Veng police operation that led to the death of a car driver happening in Prey Veng’s Ba Phnom district, 78 kilometers east of Phnom Penh, addressing Monday at the graduation ceremony of Phnom Penh International University held at National Institute of Education in Phnom Penh.
The Premier also called on the alleged shooter, son of a senior police officer, to face the laws; otherwise, even the father would lose the post.
“I express my deepest condolences to the family of victims. As of today, police has arrested one of the two suspects. Using weapon to solve issue is not a good choice,” Prime Minister stated.
It is worth noting that the victim Morn Ravuth, 32, allegedly purchased a Toyota Prius 2AF-2679 car under the installment scheme from the owner Phan Sody. The victim still owed the car owner USD 3,000.
Car owner Sody, at the same time, rent the car to the Chinese. On 23 March, the victim Ravuth took back the car from the Chinese and escaped to his hometown in Prey Veng province.
Car owner Sody thought that the victim had an ill-intended plan to escape, as Ravuth still owed him USD 3,000. Using GPS, car owner Sody followed the victim car while calling to complain police that his car was stolen.
During the operation, police officer Chim Rattanak, accompanied by his colleague, shot five bullets against the victim Ravuth and his friend, Van Khemarin, 27.
Ravuth was dead, and Khemarin injured. Rattanak escaped, while his colleague was arrested.
