Koh Kong (FN), Dec. 15 - The Royal Government of Cambodia planned to build four water treatment plants in Sihanoukville province, approximately 230 km to the Southwest of Phnom Penh, according to Prime Minister Hun Sen at the official opening of 7th Sea Festival in Koh Kong province under the slogan “Ecotourism for Green Growth and Sustainable Development”.
The four treatments will be built in the areas of Independence Beach, Sokha’s company, O’Samart, and O’chheuteal Beach with the financial contributions of approximately $3.1 billion from major hotels in Sihanoukville.
The premier also pledged to protect coasts, forests, and natural resources by starting from water treatment plant to prevent sea pollution in Sihanoukville.
“We must ensure that all the polluted water will not flow into our sea,” Prime Minister addressed.
He also appealed to promote ecotourism for the sake of forest conservation.
Cambodia recently decided to give up $22 billion from the investment of titanium mining in Chi Pat, Koh Kong province for the sake of forest conservation, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen informed Bruno Bodard, Founder and General Manager of Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club in a meeting on Saturday.
Delegate minister Sri Thamrong quoted the premier’s words to the press that, “We absolutely rejected the titanium mining in Chi Pat, as it would cause the loss of 20,000 hectares of our forests and the destruction of our beautiful sea, changing from blue to red after mining.”
“Our policy gives up money for environment,” Prime Minister highlighted, according to the same source.
Chi Phat, situated in Koh Kong province, is an eco-tourist village in the skirts of the cardamom mountain.
Chi Phat village is about 40 mins (17 km by unsealed road), or two hours by boat from the main highway, one of the highly recommended sites for adventure.
