Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 12 - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen urged the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, workers’ and employers’ representatives, unions, relevant ministries and institutions to set the minimum wage for construction and agricultural workers, and housemaids, addressing in a meeting with approximately 18,000 workers from 23 factories in Kompong Speu province on Wednesday.
"On Human Rights Day, we have received petitions from unions to determine the minimum wage for construction and other sectors to ensure that their labor force is not exploited,” the premier stated.
According to the premier, so far the government has set minimum wage for garment and footwear industry, which is US$182.
Prime Minister Hun Sen also urged house owners not to mistreat their maids as in video posted on Facebook.
