Phnom Penh (FN), Dec 11 – Cambodia has exported approximately 500,000 tons of rice over the past 11 months in 2018, a decrease of 13 per cent compared to 562,000 tons in 2017, according to a report issued by Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export Formality (SOWS-REF) dated on 3 December 2018.
China, the biggest Cambodian rice importer, imported more than 137,000 tons, followed by France more than 70,000 tons and Malaysia 37,000 tons.
Amrurice (Cambodia) Co., Ltd CEO Sang Saron told Fresh News that, “Despite the decrease of export quota compared to last year, Cambodia generated better revenues, as the amount of expensive rice increased.”
He added Cambodia’s jasmine rice, the expensive type, increased whereas the white rice, the lower quality, decreased.
In 2017, Cambodia has exported more than 630,000 tons of rice to the foreign market, while the Royal Government plans to increase export quota to one million tons per annum.
According to the report, Cambodia has 78 rice exporters exporting to over 60 countries.
