(New Delhi): Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi's visit to Malaysia, nearly a decade after his last visit, marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
The visit from 6 to 7 February reinforced the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) building upon wide-ranging cooperation in trade, technology, defence and also people-to-people
exchanges.
Key outcomes emerging from the visit included multiple MoUs in semiconductors, healthcare, fintech and security, alongside initiatives like cross-border digital payments and academic collaborations.
The visit deepened cultural and diaspora ties, while advancing regional cooperation under the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Indo-Pacific vision.
India Engages with G7 Leaders
India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met on 27 March, on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting at the Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay near Paris, France.
Minister Jaishankar focussed on India's and the Global South's concerns about food, fuel and fertilizer shortages with his counterparts from the G7 countries and others. Further, he stressed the importance of having resilient trade corridors.
“The uncertainties arising from the conflicts in West Asia only make a stronger case for more resilient trade corridors and supply chains,” Jaishankar said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Building Bridges Across Europe: The External Affairs Minister of India, S. Jaishankar's visit to the Republic of France and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg from 4 to 9 January focused on strengthening strategic and economic ties with Europe.
He held talks with the President of French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, discussing innovation, defence, technology and global issues. In Luxembourg, discussions included expanding trade, finance and digital cooperation.
S. Jaishankar also participated in the first India-Weimar foreign ministers' meeting, which included foreign ministers of France, Germany and Poland.
Overall, the visit reinforced the India-Europe partnership, highlighting shared priorities in innovation and global cooperation.
