WASHINGTON, Jul. 25 (AFP): The United States has urged an immediate end to the armed conflict between Cambodia and Thailand on Thursday, July 24 (US time), according to a report by AFP.
Speaking to reporters on the fighting between Cambodia and Thailand, US State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said: “The United States urges an immediate cessation of hostilities, protects civilian lives, and seeks a peaceful resolution to the conflict.”
The armed conflict between Cambodia and Thailand erupted on Thursday morning when Thai troops launched an aggressive attack on Cambodian troops in the border area between the two countries, forcing the Cambodian side to exercise its right to self-defense and fight back to protect Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
