Kuala Lumpur (FN), Sep. 4 – Cambodian Information Minister Neth Pheaktra highlighted the importance of cooperation and joint efforts among member countries of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in strengthening information security and maintaining order in order to boost resilience and public trust. The minister considered this as prioritized in the digital age and in the context of artificial intelligence, particularly given the rise of fake news.

Cambodian Information Minister spoke at the opening ceremony of the 19th Asia Media Summit, organized by AIBD on 3 September 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Minister Neth Pheaktra also addressed the challenges and consequences arising from the spread of fake news on social media. He urged representatives of member countries and participants at the event to work together to enhance news security for users and to raise public awareness through the "Say No to Fake News" campaign. This initiative, launched by Cambodia, is scheduled to officially begin at the end of 2024.

In the meeting, Minister Neth Pheaktra shared Cambodia's experience in combating fake news with government representatives, diplomats, and participants from Asia-Pacific and European countries attending the opening ceremony. He highlighted the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia, including the establishment of the Anti-Fake Information Committee, the Fake Information Control Commission, and the enactment of the "Journalism Professional Charter" on 6 August 2024. These measures aim to set ethical standards for journalists and content creators, support press freedom, and ensure the accountability and quality of published information.
