Singapore (FN), Jun. 19 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong agreed to enhance and deepen bilateral cooperation for mutual prosperity during their bilateral talks on Tuesday (Jun. 18) in Singapore.
During the meeting, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong warmly welcomed Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and his high-level delegation on their first official visit to Singapore. He underlined the enduring relationship between the two countries, noting that 2025 will mark the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. Prime Minister Wong highlighted that this official visit serves as a catalyst for strengthening and expanding their cooperation, paving the way for a more prosperous and robust partnership.
For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude to the Singaporean Prime Minister and government for their warm hospitality and congratulated Lawrence Wong on his appointment as Prime Minister. He acknowledged the progress in diplomatic relations and the strengthening and expansion of cooperation in various fields between the two countries, noting that this official visit will further enhance their bilateral cooperation.
During the bilateral meeting, the two leaders agreed to strengthen and expand cooperation and share experiences in key areas:
1. Political Cooperation: They committed to continuing regular political consultations between their Foreign Ministries to further expand cooperation.
2. Trade and Investment: They agreed to establish a joint working group to develop action plans to enhance trade and investment cooperation.
3. People-to-People Exchanges: They discussed building human capital, vocational training, and promoting tourism through more direct flights between Cambodia and Singapore, aiming to attract tourists from other countries.
4. Energy Security: They welcomed the outcomes of the Ministerial Meeting between Cambodia, Laos, and Singapore, supported the establishment of the Ministerial Working Group, and encouraged greater participation from relevant parties.
5. Defense and Security: They discussed senior official exchanges and training, and cooperation on combating transnational crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, technology crimes, and online fraud.
In addition, the two leaders continued to discuss a number of regional and international issues, and expressed their commitment to promoting peace, stability, unity and prosperity in the region and the world, while ensuring mutual benefits for both countries.
On the occasion, they also agreed to continue cooperation in the banking, finance and digital sectors and co-chaired the launch of the Financial Transparency Corridor project and presided over the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation on Digital Government.
Before concluding, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also invited Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to pay an official visit to Cambodia at an appropriate time and wished the Prime Minister and the Government of Singapore success in leading the country.
