COLOMBO, May 21 (Xinhua) - Over 33,000 people in Sri Lanka remain affected by the adverse weather conditions, an official said on Tuesday.
Director of the Disaster Management Center Pradeep Kodippili told the media that 1,827 people have been sent to safe locations.
He said people in northern, central, western and north-western parts of the country have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.
The Department of Meteorology, in its latest weather forecast on Tuesday, said as southwest monsoon conditions are gradually establishing over the country, the prevailing showery and windy conditions will continue.
Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western Provinces and Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, according to the department.
