BANGKOK, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn has approved retired diplomat Maris Sangiampongsa as the country's new foreign minister, the Royal Gazette said on Wednesday.

The appointment came as his predecessor, Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, abruptly resigned on Sunday after a reshuffle of several cabinet members in the government of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.
