Melbourne (FN), Mar. 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed confidence that Australian businesses will find a range of untapped opportunities in Cambodia’s business and investment landscape.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Mar. 5) during the Australia-Cambodia Business Forum.

Samdech Thipadei expressed his great pleasure to preside over the Australia-Cambodia Business Forum here in the vibrant city of Melbourne, a city renowned for its cultural diversity. He also expressed sincere appreciation to the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for orchestrating this significant event and thanked the participants for spending precious time attending the Forum, which signifies an extraordinary opportunity to strengthen the bonds between our nations and explore the immense potential for economic collaboration.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored, "This Forum also marks a prominent opportunity for Cambodian and Australian business communities to connect, revitalize and turn visionary ideas into transformative actions. Australia and Cambodia enjoy a partnership built on a strong historical foundation. The formal diplomatic relations began in 1952, demonstrating Australia’s early recognition of Cambodia’s independence.

The premier added that over the past seven decades, Australia has always been instrumental in Cambodia’s socio-economic development through its pivotal role in the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements, trade and investment, as well as continuous assistance in many fields such as education, agriculture, infrastructure, de- mining and health. In particular, Cambodia has received over AUD 1.3 billion in development assistance, reflecting Australia’s strong commitment to supporting Cambodia’s development, especially from a low-income economy to become a lower middle-income economy in 2015 and the transition towards a more resilient and inclusive upper middle-income nation by 2030 and high-income nation by 2050.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that through programs like CAPRED, for instance, Australia is helping Cambodia to prepare for graduation from the Least Developed Country status and achieve sustainable economic growth.
