Davos (FN), Jan. 18 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to maintain its support for capacity building and awareness initiatives regarding the use of intellectual property among the people of Cambodia.
The premier received a courtesy call by WIPO Director General Daren Tang on 17 January 2024 in Davos, Switzerland.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his pleasure to meet with the Director General and extended gratitude to WIPO for its past support.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also commended the positive outcomes of the previous collaboration between Cambodia and WIPO, including technical assistance for the IPAS system, support in developing laws and regulations, and capacity building in intellectual property. Additionally, the premier underlined the importance of raising public awareness and strengthening the implementation of intellectual property laws. Prime Minister Hun Manet requested continued support from WIPO in capacity building and promoting awareness of intellectual property usage among the Cambodian people.
During the meeting, Director General Daren Tang thanked Samdech Thipadei for the courtesy call and acknowledged the positive cooperation between WIPO and Cambodia.
Daren Tang also acknowledged the quality of products from Cambodia. Through previous collaborations with the Ministry of Commerce and related institutions, he had the opportunity to experience and use some of Cambodia's high-quality and potentially marketable geographical brands internationally.
