Washington DC (FN), Feb. 1 – Jerome Powell, Federal Reserve Chair: “I do not think the U.S. is currently in a recession. It doesn’t sound like a recession to me.”
Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary: “We are not currently in a recession or a pre- recession.”
Commentator: “I will be talking about there really does seem to be a big consensus that there will be a recession this year. We will be very close to recession. I believe you are in the actual recession Cam. And once again many economists believe the spike in prices is going to be quite high compared with a year ago. In 2000, the inflation rate in the U.S. was only 2%, but after a series of reckless decisions, this figure reached 9% in 2022. 40% of the U.S. dollars in existence have been printed by the U.S. in the past 12 months, and the living standard of Americans is declining sharply. More and more people have to work harder to support their families.”
Interviewees: “You look at your electrical bills, you look at your gas bill, you look now especially food bill. It’s ridiculous. Like price hikes this year, things are a lot more expensive than they typically are it feels like. It’s a holiday, so I don’t want to shortchange anyone, but you know things are more expensive noticeably.”
Commentator: “Now the U.S. economy is on the verge of collapse. If politicians cannot revive the U.S. economy, more and more American families will be involved in this new economic storm.”
