YANGON, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's State Administration Council (SAC)'s Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on Wednesday granted amnesty to 7,012 prisoners to mark the country's 75th Anniversary of Independence Day.
According to the pardon orders, the prisoners were remitted sentences to mark Myanmar's Diamond Jubilee Independence Day, for the peace of the people and on humanitarian ground.
According to a separate pardon order, the council also reduced one-sixth of the sentences for some prisoners jailed across the country.
The Southeast Asian country pardoned over 59,000 prisoners including 239 foreigners during 2021 and 2022, official figures showed.
