SINGAPORE, Oct 8 (Xinhua) -Singapore reported 6,198 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the total tally to 1,948,402.

Of the new cases, 555 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 5,643 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 530 were local transmissions and 25 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 5,478 local transmissions and 165 imported cases.

A total of 404 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with eight in intensive care units.
The country reported one new death from COVID-19 on Saturday, lifting the total death toll to 1,629.
