Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 25 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen, in his capacity as the president of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), announced his firm stance in supporting One China principle and strongly condemned all actions that violate China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The premier spoke in a courtesy call by head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Liu Jianchao, held on 24 August 2022 at the CPP headquarters.
According to the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, the meeting touched on regional and global challenges, as well as bilateral relations between the two countries.
The premier reaffirmed that Cambodia-China always have mutual supports to fight against common challenges in order to defend sovereignty, independence, security and development interests.
Samdech continued, China always assists Cambodia during difficult time, in particular in the fight against COVID19.
Regarding the Chinese sovereignty, premier Hun Sen firmly adheres to the One China principle and strongly condemned any actions that violate Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity. He pledged strong support for China in defending core interests and that remains unchanged in any circumstances.
As president of the CPP, Samdech stressed that under the complicated international and regional situation, the CPP pays close attention to strengthening relations with the Chinese Communist Party, and is delighted to cooperate in planning the development of inter-party relations.
On that occasion, the two sides also pledged to promote exchanges and learn from each other's experiences of governance, as well as promoting practical cooperation to achieve more fruitful results and jointly overcome challenges.
Liu said that China-Cambodia tie is an example of country-to-country relation that respect and support each other. Liu Jianchao also thanked Cambodia for adhering to the one-China principle and always giving strong support to the Chinese side on issues related to China's core interests.
Meanwhile, Liu announced that China strongly supports Cambodia in pursuing a development path that is in line with its national contexts and supports the CPP's efforts to achieve economic, social and national stability.
Premier Hun Sen also highlighted that the "iron-clad" relationship between Cambodia and China is deeply rooted; bilateral trade between the two countries is growing rapidly; and the construction of major projects under the framework of joint construction of Belt and Road” initiative went smoothly and achieved fruitful results, providing tangible benefits to the people of Cambodia.
Samdech expressed the hope that Cambodia and China will continue to deepen cooperation in all fields as well as boosting the "Belt and Road" initiative.
The premier continued, "Global Development Initiative" and "Global Security Initiative" by Chinese president Xi Jinping have made significant contributions to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.
Samdech thanked the Chinese side for its full support and coordination to Cambodia in hosting the Asia-Europe Meeting and the relevant Foreign Ministers' Meeting on East Asia Cooperation and the kingdom’s role as the rotating chair of ASEAN.
The premier added that Cambodia is happy to strengthen relations and coordination on international and regional affairs of the two countries, promote the development of ASEAN-China relations, accelerate the building of a common destiny community between ASEAN and China, and prevent external interference.
Liu emphasized that China and Cambodia are comprehensive strategic partners with a common destiny. Maintaining Sino-Cambodian relations from generation to generation, building a common community of common destiny is in line with the aspirations of both peoples and the trends of the times, which are fundamental interests for both sides.
Liu added that with the constant changes, the Chinese side is willing to cooperate with Cambodia to jointly address risks and challenges, protect and expand common interests. The CPC will be a reliable friend for the CPP's journey to achieving lasting peace and stability in the country.
