SEOUL, Aug 9 (CGTN) - At least 7 people were killed and six others are missing after Seoul and its surrounding regions were pounded with heavy rain which local media Yonhap News Agency described as the "heaviest in 80 years."
Five of the dead were reported in Seoul and two in neighboring Gyeonggi Province.
Four died after being trapped in flooded buildings, one was electrocuted, one was found under the wreckage of a bus stop, and another died in a landslide, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters said.
At least nine people in the areas were injured.
The accumulated precipitation in Seoul stood at 420mm as of 5 a.m. Tuesday (2000 GMT Monday), with more rain forecast.
In the glitzy, highly concentrated Gangnam district, some buildings were without power and had been inundated, while cars, buses and subway stations were submerged, leaving people stranded. Some stores were also under water.
