Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 6 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen expressed his sentiment to Japanese foreign minister Yoshimasa Hayashi over the loss of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe.
Japanese foreign minister paid on a courtesy call on the premier on Saturday morning (Aug 6) at the Peace Palace.
According to the premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth, Samdech was in deep sorrow over the loss of Shinzo Abe and compared this loss to the loss of his elder brother Hun Neng.
Premier Hun Sen also reminded that Abe has made huge contributions to the kingdom, ASEAN and the world.
In response, Yoshimasa Hayashi expressed his deep gratitude to the great sympathy and good deeds of premier Hun Sen, civil servants and the people of Cambodia, who shared their deepest condolences with the Japanese government, Abe's family and the people of Japan. He said that he will remember this great spirit.
The Japanese foreign minister also pledged to foster Cambodian-Japanese relations and cooperation, in particular in economic and defense fields.
Premier Hun Sen will attend in person the funeral of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe on 27 September 2022 in Tokyo, Japan.
On 8 July 2022, Abe, 67, was shot on the street in Nara City, western Japan, during the campaign for the upper house election.
