WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski died in a car accident while traveling in the state of Indiana on Wednesday.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy posted a statement from Walorski's office, confirming the Republican lawmaker's death.
Her husband "was just informed by the Elkhart County Sheriff's office that Jackie was killed in a car accident this afternoon," the statement read.
Two members of her staff were also killed in the crash that occurred around Wednesday noon.
Walorski, 58, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012.
U.S. President Joe Biden said in a statement that he's saddened by the incident.
"We send our deepest condolences to her husband, Dean, to the families of her staff members," Biden said.
