BANGKOK, April 26 (Nation Thailand) - The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Monday reported 2,048 new cases and eight deaths.
Four of the deaths were in Bangkok, and the rest in Pathum Thani, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphum and Yala. The ages of those who succumbed to the virus ranged between 24 and 92, and seven had reportedly been suffering from chronic conditions.
Meanwhile, of the 2,048 new cases, the highest number or 901 were in Bangkok, 110 in Samut Prakan, 104 in Chonburi, 97 in Nonthaburi and 84 in Chiang Mai.
The new infections also included 10 arrivals from overseas, including three Thais from Qatar, Hungary and the United Arab Emirates. The remainder included four Indians, a Pakistani national and a Chinese national, all of whom had flown in from their home countries, as well as a Turkish national who flew in from Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, 480 patients have recovered and been discharged in the last 24 hours.
As of Monday, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand had risen to 57,508. Of these, 54,227 had been contracted locally, including 21,707 who were found via proactive testing, while 3,281 were returnees.
So far, 31,593 have recovered and been discharged, 25,767 patients are still in hospitals, and 148 have died.
Since April 1, 54 people have succumbed to the virus, CCSA said. Thailand’s third wave of Covid-19 infections was sparked by some cluster cases in mid-March.
According to Worldometer, as of 11am on Monday, the number of confirmed cases globally had risen to 147.78 million (up by 727,349), 125.32 million have recovered, 19.34 million are active cases (110,487 in severe condition) and 3.12 million have died (up by 9,924).
Thailand ranks 106th on the global list of most cases, which is topped by the US with 32.82 million, followed by India 17.3 million, Brazil 14.34 million, France 5.49 million, and Russia 4.76 million.
Separately, another 23,080 people were given their first shot of vaccine in the last 24 hours, while 2,433 people were given their second shot, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccines administered in Thailand to 1,149,666.
