Havana (FN), Nov. 9 – Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, on 8 November (Havana time) expressed his support over the US presidential election.

The president tweeted “we recognize that, in their presidential elections, the US people have chosen a new course. We believe in the possibility of constructive bilateral relations respecting one another’s differences.”

Cuba-US relations had wearied since American President Donald Trump sworn into office in January 2017. Trump had retightened the restriction on Cuba, which was eased under Obama mandate. In June 2019, Donald Trump’s administration had extremely tightened the travel restriction to Cuba to put more pressure on the communist government for its support for the President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro.

Cuba hopes that the President-elect Joe Biden's administration will not be different from Obama’s. In this regard, Havana hopes that the Cuba-US relation can be further improved.
