NEW DELHI, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- With 81,484 new cases registered, the COVID-19 tally reached 6,394,068 in India on Friday, according to the latest data released by the health ministry.

The death toll in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic reached 99,773 as 1,095 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, added the ministry's data.

There are still 942,217 active cases in India, while 5,352,078 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals across the country.

According to the figures released by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 76,717,728 COVID-19 tests have been conducted, out of which 1,097,947 tests were conducted on Thursday alone.
