YANGON, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of COVID-19 in Myanmar has risen to 14 after two more deaths were reported on Thursday morning, while total cases in the country reach 2,009 after 120 more local transmissions were reported, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

According to the ministry, a 55-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, both with underlying diseases, died on Wednesday and Thursday morning respectively.

According to the release, the newly-confirmed cases are from Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing, Ayeyarwady and Magway regions, Rakhine, Kachin and Mon states.

Due to the recent increasing number of locally-transmitted cases, the Myanmar government on Wednesday announced a stay-at-home order in 21 townships of Yangon region where locally-transmitted cases were mostly reported.

A total of 179,471 samples have been tested for COVID-19 and 8,395 patients are currently under investigation, said the ministry.

According to the ministry, 553 patients have recovered.

Myanmar reported its first two positive cases of COVID-19 on March 23.
