JAKARTA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,051 within one day to 47,896, with the death toll adding by 35 to 2,535, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said at a press conference here on Tuesday.
He also said that 506 more people had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 19,241.
Within the past 24 hours, five provinces -- North Sumatra, Jakarta, East Java, South Sulawesi and Papua -- recorded high number of new cases, Yurianto said.
However, no more positive cases were found in eight provinces, namely Aceh, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, North Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi and West Papua.
Yurianto called on the public to obey the health protocols in a bid to avoid more COVID-19 infections.
