NEW DELHI, April 15 (Xinhua) -- India's federal health ministry Wednesday morning said the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 377 and the total number of confirmed cases in the country reached 11,439.
This is a jump of 24 deaths and an increase of 624 cases since Tuesday evening.
On Tuesday evening the number of COVID-19 cases in the country was 10,815 and the death toll was 353.
According to ministry officials, 1,306 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement, and the number of active cases in the country right now is 9,756.
Wednesday marks the 22nd straight day of the ongoing nationwide lockdown announced by the government to contain the spread of the pandemic, as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended the lockdown until May 3.
The federal government is likely to issue a detailed guideline on the implementation of the extended lockdown.
