OTTAWA, March 12 (CNA) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife Sophie has tested positive for COVID-19, his office said late on Thursday (Mar 12).
"Sophie Gregoire Trudeau was tested for COVID-19 today. The test came back positive," the prime minister's office said in a statement.
The 48-year-old leader is not showing any symptoms but will stay in isolation for 14 days, it added.
An earlier statement on Thursday said Mrs Trudeau had come down with flu-like symptoms after returning from a speaking engagement in London.
"She immediately sought medical advice, and is being tested for the COVID-19 virus," it said, adding that she is "self-isolating at home" and that her symptoms have subsided.
Mr Trudeau's scheduled face-to-face meetings with provincial premiers will instead be held by phone, his office added.
Canada has more than 100 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, more than double the number from a week ago, with six of Canada's 10 provinces recording COVID-19 contagion.
