Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 27 – Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment planned to purchase 15 air quality monitoring tools from China to assess particulate matter, according to Heng Nareth, director general of Department of Environmental Protection of the Ministry.

Nareth spoke in a press conference on “Development of Ministry of Environment and Update on Air Quality in Cambodia,” organised by Government Spokesperson Unit held on Monday.

He said the air monitoring tool might cost about USD 5,000 each and will be setup in Svay Rieng, Banteay Meanchey, and other major cities.

Currently, Cambodia has seven air quality control stations in Phnom Penh; two in Siem Reap; two in Sihanoukville; and one each in other provinces across the Kingdom, tallying to 31 in total.

Ministry of Environment reported last week that the Kingdom’s air quality has improved.

The ministry’s Spokesperson Neth Pheaktra told Fresh News that the ministry continues to monitor the air quality, while at the same time urged the public to prevent wildfire, and burning waste at the open space.

He said the ministry issued a letter on a timely manner, calling on citizens to be cautious, as the level of PM2.5 fall below the standard.
