WASHINGTON, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- There were "multiple fatalities" in a shootout after an armed robbery at a Florida jewelry store led to a massive police chase on Thursday, said local authorities.

Police in the city of Miramar tweeted that they have confirmed an officer-involved shooting with multiple fatalities and no law enforcement officers were killed.

The incident began as an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in Coral Gables. At least two suspects hijacked a UPS truck and took the driver hostage before running way, police said.
