NEW DELHI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced free electricity for its citizens up to 200 units, and 50-percent subsidy for the next 200 units.
Kejriwal told media that people in Delhi who consume electricity up to 200 units will get zero electricity bill, and the consumers of 201-400 units of electricity will receive approximately 50 percent subsidy.
He also said that Delhi provided the cheapest electricity in the country.
This announcement came just a few months ahead of the assembly polls in the national capital.
A couple of weeks earlier, Kejriwal announced free travel for women in the Indian capital in government-owned buses and the Metro trains run by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
