SEOUL, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), will deliver his condolence message and flowers through his younger sister to the funeral of Lee Hee-ho, the wife of the former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, Seoul's unification ministry said Wednesday.
The DPRK informed South Korea through the inter-Korean liaison office in the DPRK's border town of Kaesong earlier in the day that the DPRK leader will send his condolence message and flowers over Lee's death in the DPRK side of the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom at 5:00 p.m. local time.
The condolence message and flowers will be conveyed by Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of the DPRK leader.
To accept the message and flowers, Chung Eui-yong, top national security advisor for South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Vice Unification Minister Suh Ho and Park Jie-won, a lawmaker of the minor opposition Party for Democracy and Peace, will travel to Panmunjom.
Lee passed away on Monday night after battling liver cancer. Lee, who was born in 1922, had served as chair of the Kim Dae Jung Peace Center that was founded by her husband to promote the inter-Korean reconciliation and fight global poverty.
Lee accompanied her husband, who served as a South Korean president for five years from 1998, to Pyongyang in 2000 for the first inter-Korean summit with then top DPRK leader Kim Jong Il, father of the current DPRK leader.
When the former South Korean president died in 2009, the DPRK sent a six-member delegation to the funeral.
Lee visited Pyongyang in December 2011 to pay her respect to the death of the former DPRK leader Kim Jong Il, meeting with the current DPRK leader during the funeral.
She visited the DPRK again in August 2015 at the invitation of Kim Jong Un, touring children's hospitals and daycare centers in Pyongyang.
