MOSCOW, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Sometimes a marketing idea can seem like a good idea at the time, but then threatens to backfire spectacularly against you.
That is the case for Belgian electrical goods chain-store 'Krefel', who before the World Cup, published the following advertisement: "Are you a Belgium fan? With a good television, you can enjoy the World Cup this year as if you had a front row seat! And it could be completely free because of Belgium score more that 15 goals, Krefel will refund the full price of your purchase."
The Belgium side which is preparing to play Brazil in the World Cup quarter-finals on Friday in Kazan, has so far beaten Panama 3-0, defeated Tunisia 5-2 and England 1-0 before scoring 3 more goals in their thrilling 3-2 triumph over Japan in the last 16.
That's a total of 12 goals, enough to make a few marketing executives at Krefel very nervous indeed, although some of the Belgium players are clearly hoping to take advantage of the offer.
"My friends bought a television from them, so I am thinking about that," Dries Mertens told the press ahead of the game against Japan, adding ominously for Krefel that Belgium "like to score a lot of goals."
