PHNOM PENH (FN), May 1 – Presiding over the celebration of the International Labor day in Sihanoukville today, May 1, Prime Minister Hun Sen said to hundreds of participants that he will call on His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodon Sihamony and invite him to go on a trip by railroad and that he will accompany the King on the visit.

In the meantime, the premier emphasized that Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville railroad was established by Samdech Preah Borom Ratanak Kaod Norodom Sihanouk in the era of Sangkum Reastnyum and not during the French colonial ruling as stated by certain commentators.

“Without the efforts by the Head of State during the Sangkumreastnyum, Samdech Preah Borom Rotanakoad Norodom Sihanouk, we would not be able to say we repair it, because there would not be the thing [the railroad], and so we cannot say we restore it,” said the premier.

“I am thinking of calling on His Majesty the King and invite him to go on a trip by the railroad, since we have both air-conditioned carriages and non-air-conditioned carriages and with free Wi-Fi, “he added.

The Prime Minister also said the government is conducting a feasibility study and is looking for funds to build a new railroad to Siem Reap when Cambodia currently has already two lines of railroad from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh to Banteay Meanchey, over 200 km to the
