TOKYO, June 26 (Xinhua) -- A man stabbed a police officer to death and left with the officer's gun in central Japan's Toyama City on Tuesday, local media reported.
After stabbing the policeman, the assailant fatally shot a man nearby with the police officer's gun, local authorities said.
The suspect was shot by another police officer who rushed to attend the scene, local police said.
The assailant was seriously injured after being shot.
Japan's top government spokesperson Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said in Tokyo that two people were killed in the attack.
It was later announced by a government official that those who were killed were the police officer who was stabbed and a nearby security guard, who was shot by the suspect near a school in the area.
