Phnom Penh (FN), June 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his firm belief that between a competitor in the election and an individual who prevented voters from going to vote, it is indeed the latter one who destroys democracy, addressing to 3,000 graduates at Phnom Penh’s Diamond Island on Friday.

Prime Minister said that there used to be a small group including few foreigners criticized the 20 political parties in Cambodia as the democracy destroyers.

“I don’t understand when they called the 20 parties racing in the election the democracy destroyers,” he said adding that: “The ones who urge people not to vote are indeed the destroyers of democracy.”

Cambodia will hold its sixth mandate National Assembly election on Sunday, 29 July 2018 to determine the country's leaders.

According to the National Election Committee, 20 political parties have registered to race in the election. However, former main opposition party in Cambodia, the Cambodia National Rescue Party has been banned to race in this upcoming election, as the court decided to dissolve the party due to the its treacherous acts, conspiring with foreigners to topple the legitimate government.

Former leaders of the dissolved parties and their squads have used all means to accuse the July’s elections will not be held in a free, fair, and just manner. They also urged people not to go to vote without the presence of their party. Worse, they also cursed other political parties that compete in the 2018 election.

The premier considered the dissolved party’s acts destroying Cambodian democracy. He added that their insults towards other parties are serious political offenses – for making 20 enemies.
