Phnom Penh (FN), June 12 – War could not be ended by military forces, but a political negotiation could do based on the principles of interests, Gen. Pol Saroeun, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) told Commandant Place National Defence College of Tanzania Jacob Gideon Kingu on Tuesday at the headquarter in Phnom Penh.

“We are military. It is best for us if we could avoid war, as it destroys people and properties non-stop,” he said.

“However, trainees shall not stand back. It is an obligation,” he added.

General Pol Saroeun thanked the delegation for visiting Cambodia to learn about Khmer history, culture, and values. He informed the delegation the Cambodia's development over the past two decades following absolute peace in 1998, thanks to the win-win policy of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The general told the Tanzanian delegates that Cambodia is working to protect peace and prevent color revolutions. He continued that the Royal Government of Cambodia is grateful for the United Nations (UN) for supporting the elections in Cambodia in 1993 and the assistance of African people.

The General believed that Tanzania will maintain peace and further develop.

General Jacob informed Cambodian Commander-in-Chief that Tanzania needs to maintain peace and stability, so the study at his university focuses on peace in the region and beyond. This visit serves as a practical lesson by learning from the experience of Cambodia, he said.

Jacob Gideon Kingu led a delegation to visit Cambodia from June 9 to June 16, 2018 before heading to Doha, Qatar.
