Phnom Penh (FN), June 8 - Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ouch Borith asked an exiled former leader of Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Sam Rainsy to re-read the United Nations Charter before convincing the UN to reject Cambodian seat.

The statement was made in response to Rainsy’s appeal for the U.N to dismiss Cambodia’s membership, speaking on Friday in a press conference on “Cambodia Elected as Vice President of the 73rd Session of the United Nation General Assembly” held at the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The U.N will not follow your [Rainsy’s] deceitful act,” said Ouch Borith adding that “Read principle 7 of article 2 of the UN Charter”.

Principle 7 of Article 2 of the United Nation Charter stipulates that, “Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the United Nations to intervene in matters which are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state or shall require the Members to submit such matters to settlement under the present Charter”.

Borith added that Sam Rainsy and his group used to tell Cambodians that they love Cambodia; however, urged foreigners to cut aid and stop buying products from Cambodia.

The Kingdom of Cambodia and 15 other countries from different regional groups were elected as the Vice Presidents of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)," according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' press release dated on Thursday.
