Phnom Penh (FN), June 6 - President of Cambodian Youth Party (CYP) Pich Sros called Sam Rainsy, leader of Cambodia National Rescue Movement, the first Cambodian who violated the King's affairs for calling His Majesty's royal message a forgery.

“Sam Rainsy is the first Cambodian to betray the will of the King of Cambodia and to interfere into the King’s affairs," he said.

“King's letter urging people to go to vote: a forgery or a piece made under duress and legally worthless,” Rainsy wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

Ministry of Justice spokesman Kim Santepheap claimed that Sam Rainsy's accusation the royal message a forgery insulted His Majesty King and could face a punishment of one to five years imprisonment.

Regarding the royal message, Royal Palace Senior Official in charge of general affairs Kuy Sophal confirmed Wednesday that the Royal Message: “Urging People to Go to Vote” is genuine.

His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, called on all citizens to exercise their free rights by voting in the National Assembly 6th mandate election on July 29, 2018, according to the royal letter dated on May 18, 2018.

"I would like to call on all voters to go to vote for national leader for the development and prosperity of the nation in all sectors,” His Majesty wrote in the letter.

His Majesty added the July’s election is a universal, free, fair, just, equal, and confidential election in accordance with the multiparty liberal democracy; and that no threats nor bullies will happen on anyone or any political party.

"The King called on people to vote, but if the opposition called on people not to vote, it is clear that this is against the King, not against Hun Sen’s government, or against the other 20 political parties. A royal message is a slap on the face. If you [Rainsy] are against the King, you’ll be against whatever you want,” said Prime Minister Hun Sen addressing to 22,470 workers from eight factories in Kampong Cham Province on Wednesday.
