Phnom Penh (FN), June 2 - Secretary-General of Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) Sam Inn, who used to support Sam Rainsy's former opposition party in 2013, has continuously attacked this former leader of the opposition party as he considered Rainsy's urge “not to vote” as self-centered rather than promoting democracy in Cambodia.

"I think that Sam Rainsy’s urge focuses primarily on his fate in future politics rather than on the future of Cambodia’s democracy," said Sam Inn.

Observers of the political situation in Cambodia also see Rainsy's actions as an act that backward democracy.

Cambodian election was held after the Paris Peace Agreement signed on October 23, 1991 with the support from the United Nations.

From the first mandate in 1993 to the fifth mandate in 2013, the National Election Committee (NEC) and other donor countries had educated people on democracy and urged them to vote in both national  and commune-council elections.

Through more than 20 years of hard work, more Cambodians begin to understand democracy and engage in civic role as the number of people go to the polls is higher than France and the United States.
