Phnom Penh (FN), June 2 - Cambodian Minister of Defense Tea Banh accompanied by General Pol Saroeun, Commander in Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), General Neang Phat, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defense, and General Director for Department-General of Policy and Foreign Affairs Nem Sowath attended the 17th Asia Security in Singapore for three days, from June 1-3, 2018 at an invitation of John Chipman, Director-General and Executive Director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

The summit was attended by a number of defense ministers, army commanders, civil society organizations from more than 50 countries.

In the 1st plenary session under the theme “U.S Leadership and the Challenges of Indo-Pacific Security”, US Defense Minister James N.Mattis said the United States committed to maintain security, stability and economic development in the Indo-Pacific region despite the tremendous risk.

He also informed about the Indo-Pacific Strategic Plan of the U.S in transforming Indo-Pacific Region to be an open and free zone, where everyone has the right to access.

Since 2002, Shangri-La Dialogue has allowed national defense institutions to meet and exchange views on the Asia-Pacific security challenges.

The plenary sessions include U.S Leadership and the Challenges of Indo-Pacific Security, De-Escalating the North Korea Crisis, Shaping Asia’s Evolving Security Order, New Dimension of Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, and Raising the Bar for Regional Security Cooperation.
