Phnom Penh (FN), May 25 – The Cabinet Meeting, presided by Prime Minister Hun Sen on Friday at Peace Palace, has adopted the Draft Law on Minimum Wage, according to the government spokesman Phay Siphan.
Law on Minimum Wage aims to promote a decent living wage, create more job opportunities, increase workers’ productivity, and attract more investment to Cambodia.
Law on Minimum Wage widely applies to any individuals under the provisions of Law on Labor. The law will determine the wages based on social and economic analysis. The National Council on Minimum Wage will be established to research and provide recommendations on wages and other benefits to any individuals under the provisions of Law on Labor.
Draft Law on Minimum Wage is a new achievement in the development of legal frameworks to support the implementation of the Rectangular Strategy Phase III of the Royal Government of the 5th Legislature of the National Assembly.
The establishment of a clear legal framework on wage will improve the living standards of workers, and ensure the sustainability of international trade and the promotion of investment.
Today’s meeting discusses on five topics including (1) Draft Law on the Amendments of article 87, 89, 90, 91, 94, 110, 120, 122 of Labor Law; (2) Draft Law on Minimum Wage; (3) Draft Law on the Amendment of article 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, title of chapter 4, article 16, 19, 26, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 65, 66, 67 and 68 of the Law on Standards of Cambodia; (4) a Project to build a 700-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Sihanoukville and the investment on the construction of a 60-megawatt solar power plant in Kompong Speu province; and (5) Others.
