Pursat (FN), May 24 - Speaking at the inauguration of the new administrative building of Pursat Provincial Hall on Thursday, Minister of Interior Sar Kheng announced that any individual who appeals for people not to vote violated the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and that appeals for people to vote is in accordance with the law.

Article 142 of the Law on Elections of Members of National Assembly stipulates that any individual who urges people not to vote could face a fine of over $1,200 to $5,000 by the National Election Committee (NEC) excluding other criminal offenses.

The minister said that the upcoming 6th National Assembly election is very important for the nation and every citizen to exercise their rights in choosing the representative for the country’s development, peace, stability and security.

Sar Kheng also called on authorities, police and civil servants at all levels to facilitate all political parties to implement their political activities and race in the July’s elections.

The Minister also reminded everyone to protect peace, which is invaluable for national development.
