LONDON, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Few people would dare go against the wishes of a future king, but newly-wed Prince Harry revealed Tuesday he had done so.

Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, now the duke and duchess of Sussex, co-hosted a garden party along with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. It was their first event since their wedding on Saturday.

The party was a gathering of people from organizations connected with the British heir, Prince Charles, to wish him a happy 70th birthday.

Prince Harry spoke how his father, who he constantly referred to as "pa", wanted the organizations to be in the limelight while he stayed in the background.

Harry laughed and told his father: "I know you really didn't want today to be about you and would far rather the focus be on the people and organizations represented here. So, Pa, while I know that you've asked that today not be about you, you must forgive me if I don't listen to you - much like when I was younger."

He told how Prince Charles had inspired him and his older brother Prince William.

"You have created an incredible body of work that has, and will continue to make such a huge difference to so many people's lives both here and around the world."

Then in another piece of humor, he concluded by saying to the guests: "Please can I ask you to join me in wishing the Prince of Wales a very happy birthday - six months ahead of his 70th! How very Royal!"
