Phnom Penh (FN), May 8 - The Ministry of Health issued a press release on Tuesday night confirming that the polluted water from a stream in Kratie’s Chet Borey district contains high level of chemical compound from the pesticide.
The results of the experiments on polluted water contains 12.39 part per billion (ppb) to 26.12ppb of chemical compounds from pesticide, exceeding the standard of 0.5ppb, according to the press release.
Minister of Health Mam Bunheng called on people in the affected area to stop using the water immediately to avoid further incidents.
Kratie governor Va Thorn said that some victims were relieved and were finally allowed to return home.
The number of victims harmed by the allegedly polluted water since Thursday in the above district have increased to 280 on top of the 13 deceased as of Monday morning, according to Chhneang Sovatha, director of Kratie’s health department.
