Phnom Penh (FN), May 7 – “Which country of the international community will not recognize Cambodia’s election result and will pressure Cambodia?” Prime Minister Hun Sen questioned former Cambodia National Rescue Party leader, presiding over the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the improvement of National Road No.3, with the length of approximately 135 km, from Phnom Penh’s Chom Chao-Bek Kus-Kampot with estimated cost of more than $200 million under the preferential buyer’s credit loan from China.

“Some people said if their parties could not participate in the election, the international community will not recognize the result. What’s the international community? Who’s the real actors of international community,” asked the premier.

The premier’s reaction came after some opposition leaders, particularly Sam Rainsy campaigned abroad and via Facebook, saying that the foreign countries will not recognize the July’s elections result without the presence of the opposition party.

The premier countered that the international community the opposition party mentioned includes just one or two countries, while many other countries support Cambodia, namely China and India that have 2.6 billion populations.

“Only one or two countries support you [Rainsy]. Don’t forget that there are many countries, such as China, India, South Korea, Japan and other countries of the ASEAN community support and work with Cambodian government. Are they not the international community?” he stated.

The premier criticized the opponents as lacking of understanding on foreign affairs. He stressed that some countries, despite having issues with Cambodia, still continued their diplomatic ties with Cambodia.
