Phnom Penh (FN), May 7 – Ministry of Health, on Monday, clarified the cause of rice wine poisoning in Kratie province, while the causes of water pollution in Kratie's Chet Borey district have yet been found.
“Rice wine poisoning caused by excessive level of methanol; however, the experiment on causes of allegedly polluted water has yet produced result,” Ministry of Health wrote in the press release dated on Monday.
The number of victims harmed by the allegedly polluted water since Thursday in the above district have increased to 200 on top of the 13 deceased as of Monday morning, according to Chhneang Sovatha, director of Kratie’s health department.
According to the ministry’s press release, 134 victims of the two cases are being treated at Kratie provincial hospital, and that 12 serious patients were sent to Calmette Hospital.
