Phnom Penh (FN), April 4 - Director-General of the Department of External Security Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Liu Shaobin stated that the Chinese government fully supports the election process in Cambodia.

The statement was made on Thursday in a meeting with Senior Minister Prak Sokhonn in the framework of the 3rd Cambodia-China Consultation Meeting at the Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Chum Sounry, the Ministry’s spokesman said that the Chinese side not only supports the Cambodia’s election process, but also measures taken by the Royal Government of Cambodia to safeguard security and stability in country; China truly respects Cambodia’s independence and sovereignty.

Senior Minister Prak Sokhonn informed the Chinese side that the election process in Cambodia is in a good atmosphere and that many political parties, including those on the ruling’s side and opposition’s side, are preparing to participate in the sixth mandate of the July’s National Assembly member elections.

Both sides also discussed on enhancing the relations and cooperation between the two countries. Senior Minister Prak Sokhonn is scheduled to visit China by the end of 2018 to strengthen the Cambodia-China comprehensive strategic cooperation.
