Phnom Penh (FN), April 30 - Grassroots Democracy Party (GDP), led by Yeng Virak, announced its interest to conditionally participate in the upcoming July’s national elections, according to a statement issued by the GDP on Monday.
GDP is preparing to race in the national elections, but will cancel candidacy if four conditions are not met, including (1) no interruption towards party’s actions such meeting with members and supporters; (2) no threats to candidates, activists and supporters, (3) freedom to promote party through media; and (4) full rights for national and international observers to participate in the pre-election, election, and post-election.
The party believed that only just, fair, and accurate elections can allow all political parties to effectively take part in building the Kingdom with peace, dignity, respect, and sovereignty.
GDP’s Secretary-General and spokesman Sam Inn said that the party will hold its meeting on May 6, 2018, to finalize whether to participate in the election.
