Phnom Penh (FN), April 30 - Cambodia celebrated her 19th anniversary of becoming a member of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which reflected a diplomatic victory of Cambodia under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen and the Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The recognition of Cambodia as the tenth ASEAN member was held at the ASEAN Summit on April 30, 1999 in Vietnam.
Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong said Cambodia has taken countless diplomatic endeavors for the ASEAN members to support Cambodia’s candidacy in becoming a member of ASEAN.
He reiterated the great pleasure that Prime Minister Hun Sen appointed him to represent Cambodia and complete the procedures to attain ASEAN membership. He is honored to see Cambodian flag gradually leveled to those of other ASEAN members.
