Phnom Penh (FN), April 29 – Supporters of former Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) and Sam Rainsy’s movement has recently reacted towards Kong Mony Ka’s newly established party, Chhanktak Khmer Party.
Speaking in an interview with Fresh News CEO Lim Chea Vutha on Sunday afternoon, Kong Korm said CNRP has lost its soul and urged former supporters to support the new party.
Kong said Sam Rainsy likes to humiliate other party; Rainsy does not respect political rights and the rights of citizens in elections.
"I have clearly stated that the CNRP has no chances to participate in the election on July 29, 2018. We cannot see the move of the CNRP, but we can only see the will of more than three million voters, who supported the CNRP in 2013 and 2017”, he added.
FN CEO: Some former CNRP officials criticized the establishment of Chhantak Khmer Party. What do you think?
Kong Korm: We need to understand that those who are cut off from politics practiced self-consolation.
FN CEO: Sam Rainsy posted yesterday criticizing that the newly formed party was a cheating party and he called for people not to vote. What do you think?
Kong Korm: This new party has idealistic stance on multiparty democracy like the CNRP. We did not abandon the CNRP. The new party will follow its announcement as a separate party from the CNRP. If the CNRP returned to election on time, the new party will welcome the CNRP and will be the next wave of young politicians. Calling on citizens not to vote is contrary to CNRP's stance that degraded political rights of citizens. Thus, citizens' political rights to vote must exist every five years.
FN CEO: Sam Rainsy suggested that the new party was created for a fake vote. What do you think?
Kong Korm: Sam Rainsy humiliated other party. He thinks only CNRP can contribute to democracy in Cambodia. Those who did not join the Senate election has made the Senate a single party, so young politicians will take part in the election to prevent the National Assembly 6th mandate from having a single party.
